Dungeon journal

The Jadefin Grotto is the home of the Jadefin Murlocs, a mythical clan that has stayed hidden from the world for centuries.

Lately though, things have gone sour and there is a darkness rising deep in the caves. In the grotto the babyfins are not playing anymore, they are preparing for battle. This place used to teem with life, but now all you hear is a menacing silence, interspersed with chilling drips from above.

The clan that hid

Every fisherman in Southshore has a story about the green murlocs. Nobody has one about where they live. The Jadefin withdrew from the coast when the trolls still ruled Hillsbrad, and they built their home in a sea cave that only floods at the spring tide.

Inside, they made something no other murloc tribe ever managed: a kingdom. A throne of raw jade, a royal line, gardens of moss, and a hatchery that has never once gone quiet. Until now.

The silence

It started at the Forbidden Pool. The pool sits above the deepest shaft of the grotto, and the Jadefin have always known not to swim there. Then the water turned dark, the babyfins stopped playing, and the queen ordered the Armory opened for the first time in a hundred years.

Whatever rose from below did not attack. It whispered. Now half the clan guards the throne against the other half, and the Coral Pens hold prisoners who used to be family.

A dungeon about a place, not a villain

Jadefin Grotto was designed as a mid-level dungeon with a twist: the murlocs are not the enemy, they are the victims. The party arrives as intruders, earns the trust of a royal friend, and fights through the corrupted half of the clan to reach the prince.

Four bosses, short and dense, with the last fight staged at the Jade Throne where the whispering thing finally shows itself.

The wings

Room by room

  1. 01 Entrance

A tidal cave on the Hillsbrad coast. Come at low tide, and mind the drips.

  2. 02 Slippery Flats

Algae-slick stone where the first Jadefin guards hold the line. Footing is a mechanic here.

  3. 03 Moss Gardens

Terraced pools of glowing moss, once the clan's pantry, now overgrown with something that moves.

  4. 04 Forbidden Pool

The dark water above the deep shaft. Nothing that enters comes back the same.

  5. 05 Hatchery

Racks of eggs guarded by the fiercest mothers in Azeroth. The corruption has reached the clutches.

  6. 06 The Coral Pens

Prison cells of living coral. The prisoners are not the ones who need saving.

  7. 07 Armory

Barnacled spears and shell shields, opened for a war the Jadefin never wanted.

  8. 08 The Jade Throne

The royal hall, and the seat of Prince Grrugl. The whisper is loudest here.
