Over the last century, Kaizer the Elementalist has been collecting elementals from all over Azeroth to add to his sanctuary. There is a reason the hideout is placed right in the middle of the Un'Goro Power Crystals. Kaizer is trying to become an elemental god.

The Sanctuary is a fascinating place where the elements run loose. The laws of nature do not seem to apply here. Be cautious, nothing is what it seems.

The collector

Kaizer was a Kirin Tor apprentice once, expelled for a thesis nobody wanted to read: that the Titans' power crystals of Un'Goro could bind an elemental permanently, and that a mage who bound enough of them could stop being a mage.

He went to Un'Goro to prove it. A century later, the Sanctuary sprawls beneath Fire Plume Ridge, and every wing of it holds a different element in chains. Ice in the Frozen Storage. Fire in the Boiler. Wind in the Tunnels. Earth in the Stone Halls. And in the center, on a throne ringed by crystals, a man who is no longer entirely a man.

A zoo where the cages are failing

The Sanctuary is not a fortress. It is a collection, and the collection is getting loose. Each wing is a contained environment tuned to its element, and each has begun to bleed into its neighbors. Frost creeps into the Arcane Theater. The Sun Chapel burns the Catacombs from above. The Decaying Larder is what happens when nothing is in charge at all.

That is the design hook: nine encounters, one per element and one per broken boundary, where the arena rules change room by room and the party has to relearn the ground under their feet.

The ascension

Kaizer's throne stands at the center of a ritual circle powered by the Un'Goro crystals. Every elemental in the Sanctuary feeds it. Kill the collection and the ritual starves. Leave it, and the Elementalist finishes what he came to do.

The final encounter puts the party in the circle with him, and with whatever elements are still alive to answer his call.

The wings

Room by room

  1. 01 Entrance

A cleft in Fire Plume Ridge, warm as a kiln, marked by crystals that hum when you get close.

  2. 02 Stone Halls

Earth-bound galleries where the walls take sides. The floor is the boss.

  3. 03 Wind Tunnels

A green howl of air elementals and moving platforms. Positioning is life.

  4. 04 Frozen Storage

Kaizer's ice vault. Frozen specimens line the walls, and not all of them stay frozen.

  5. 05 Arcane Theater

A lecture hall for one. Kaizer rehearses his ascension here, with bound elementals as the audience.

  6. 06 The Boiler

The heart of the Sanctuary's heat. Fire elementals stoke a furnace that has no purpose but to burn.

  7. 07 Sun Chapel

A golden hall open to the crater sky, where light itself has been chained to an altar.

  8. 08 The Cache

The tribute chest. Kaizer keeps what his elementals bring him. A reward room, with a guardian.

  9. 09 Catacombs

Where the failed experiments are kept. They are still moving.

  10. 10 Decaying Larder

Rot and spores. The one element Kaizer never meant to collect, growing in the dark.

  11. 11 Kaizer's Throne

The ritual circle at the center of everything. The end of the dungeon, and of the Elementalist, one way or the other.
